Reissue, originally released in 1961. Groundbreaking girl group the Marvelettes were the first successful female group and the first hit-making act for Motown after the Miracles. Gladys Horton formed the quartet in the Glee Club of Inkster High School with Katherine Anderson, Georgeanna Tillman, Wyanetta Cowart (known as Juanita) and Georgeanna Dobbins, who dropped out prior to the Motown deal, replacement Wanda Young sharing lead duties with Horton. Debut single “Please Mr. Postman” is the immortal classic that spawned the debut album of the same name, part-shaped by Smokey Robinson and Marvin Gaye, a must-have capturing their budding glory.
